Free the Fart
You heard me! When the systems get more oppressive and controlling, how can we find ways to be more free in our bodies?
I took a workshop by anti-racism facilitator Aaron Johnson, and he introduced a radically simple concept I've been thinking about ever since. In order to do serious healing work together, we have to be relaxed in our bodies. That means, if you have to fart, you gotta let it go. Uncomfortable, right? Holding farts in is even more uncomfortable I would argue.
We have to start with bodily freedom in healing spaces: yoga class, massage, with our friends. I sense my clients are holding back in many ways during bodywork, and I understand. It's vulnerable to create sounds and smells. So here's my permission to unleash. And you don't even have to say sorry or excuse me!
Here are some other NON-frequently asked questions that I feel compelled to answer anyway.
What if I cry?
It's ok.
What if I make weird noises?
It's ok.
What if I get an erection?
It's ok.
What if my body is [insert your insecurity]?
It's ok!
If we want to get liberated, it has to start with the body. Hope to smell ya later!
